Sponsorship, Events & The Community

ASKAMBURY 2023

HBP & Barker Developments were proud sponsors of this years local music festival “Askambury”!

HBP have been the main sponsor of Askambury since the first one in 2018 and it is a great day for the local community to get together and raise money for Askam United Football Club at the HBP Ground!

CONISTON 2 Barrow

This year, one of our Project Managers Tom Butler took part in the Coniston 2 Barrow to raise money for Cancer Care.

Luke Sprout

HBP are proud to be backing Luke for the 2023 no limits season.

“Wow! 😍

Im super excited to announce a new venture riding this Honda 500 four for Harry Barker! I dont know a great deal about these old bikes so its going to be a learning curve for all of us! However, I’m stoked to be given the opportunity to ride this beautiful machine!
Harry (Harry Barker Properties Ltd) has also very kindly agreed to back my No Limits season on the Zx6r this year too so a massive thank you to him!
Now… Let’s go racing!!! 😎

The salvation army christmas toy appeal

In December 2021 one of our wagon drivers swapped his aggregate delivery for a donation of new toys on behalf of HBP to our customers site in Barrow in Furness. Alongside our customer HBP have donated to the Salvation Army’s Christmas Toy appeal. We thought this was a great idea and hoped that our small donations made a big difference to many children at Christmas!

Askam United FC

HBP have been a proud sponsor of Askam United FC for several years. We have contributed to the upkeep of the ground and the renovation of the changing rooms. As a result of HBP sponsorship, the club have gone from having 0 junior teams to 5 and having over 100 players signed on with 12 coaches at the club.

Sean Hagan, Chairman of Askam United said: “HBP have been our biggest supporter in my time as chairman and I hope it’s evident that any support we receive is put straight into making improvements at the club. We couldn’t have done it without you.”

Askam RLFC

HBP have sponsored Askam RLFC for many years from kit sponsorship to training equipment and we have also helped with the ground maintenance and redevelopments of the club. In 2017 we sponsored Tom Butler and Mike Wilson for their trip to Dubai with the Bulldogs  who were playing for the over 35’s in the World Sevens.

Bay hospital charity

From May 23rd Darryl Dixon aims to cycle from Lands End to John O’ Groats in 6 days. A distance of 1000miles & 520000ft of ascent.

He is hoping to raise as much money as he can for NHS Furness General Bay Hospital Intensive Care and associated Wards/Units.

So, in support of Darryl, The NHS Health Records Team based at one of HBP’s Offices in Barrow aim to cycle over 166 Miles in 5 days, using an exercise bike donated and set up by a local Gym in the Health Records office.

Our MD took 30 minutes off to help them achieve their target! 👏🏻🚴

The Barrow Colour Run

The barrow colour run is an annual event which raises money for local charities. The run is a 5k around Barrow park. The event has raised money for local charities such as Salvation Army, North West Blood Bikes Lancs & Lakes & Animal Welfare Furness.

Community Action

This year we are delighted to have teamed up with a community action group and have pledged to support our local community in these difficult times!

Working with local schools has allowed us to offer free school meals for children which started in November 2020 and is running until the end of December 2020.

HBP initially wanted to do something for the half term school holidays, however with many great options available over that specific period from other local businesses we thought it would be good for us to do something a little bit different. It’s great to be able to help out with community ideas but especially so when we can see how they make a real difference.

Among some of the schools we visited were George Hastwell, Cheeky Monkeys and St Columbus.

Greenheart Den

HBP were approached by a local community group who were redeveloping a once derelict area in Barrow-In- Furness and transforming it into a safe urban retreat for local children.

We felt like this was a great project to help out and get involved in and to assist with the redevelopment we donated  forty tonnes of stone to the project.

Danny & travis Shaw

Travis is 6 years old and is currently racing in a mini moto British championship run by Fab racing UK. 2020 was his first competitive year racing in the rookie championship where he was the youngest on the grid and he managed 4 podiums over the year.

2021 will see Travis step up in the mini moto pro class and hope he continues to develop in the sport, he has signed up for two championship’s this year and will be racing in 16 rounds all over the UK as well as two weeks in a Spanish race School in March COVID permitting.

HBP have also been a proud sponsor of Danny Shaw (Travis’ Dad) for many years of his motorsport career and are delighted to be a part of the sponsorship of the next generation of competitors.

Brathay Trust

HBP has undertaken work for the Brathay Trust. We redeveloped a previously unusable section of the front lawn at Brathay Hall in Ambleside. The area had to be cleared, drained and levelled to create more space for fundraising events and team challenges hosted at the venue. Brathay Trust works with 7,000 young people a year in the North of England and many come to the hall on programmes that involve activities on the front lawn.

Harry Barker, Managing Director said: ” The project is in line with our commitment to helping Furness people. We believe you should help if you can and over the years we have helped other local charities and schools too, as far as we’re concerned it makes good business sense and we have a happy work force who know they can respond to local needs.”

saving askam's gp surgery

In February 2020 it was announced that Askam’s Parklands Surgery would close when the current GP retired in June.
In May, a group of Parish, District and County Councillors got together to try and drum up support to save the Askam GP Practice. The Save Our Surgery Group was formed and gathered over 500 signatures to present a petition to Parliament. For a community like Askam a local GP is a must, and our Managing Director thought the same. He kindly bought the building to use solely for the purpose of being a Doctors Surgery.

This has been a collective effort from all involved and really shows what can be done when a group of people get the support of the community and pull together. Huge thank you to the whole team for making this happen.

Oliver Dilks

HBP have sponsored Oliver Dilks since 2017 for Kart Racing where he has gone from strength to strength. He is currently competing in the senior kart racing division and regularly keeps us up to date with his progress and success.

Over recent years, Oliver has used his sponsorship for new race suits, new tyres and for the general upkeep of his kart.
